NAIROBI, Kenya- Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has warned against internal actions he says could weaken the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), insisting that the party must remain united and accountable to its members.
Speaking during a public engagement, Nassir said ODM belongs to its members and that leaders have a duty to protect the party’s ideals while acting in the best interests of the country.
“We will not allow our party ODM to be weakened from within. This party belongs to its members, and as leaders, we bear a responsibility to safeguard their interests and to act in the best interests of our country,” Nassir said.

The governor called on party members with differing views to express them openly and constructively, rather than working quietly against the party’s leadership or direction.
“If there are differing views or proposals, let them be presented openly and constructively, just as we openly declared our intention to form government. Leadership demands honesty, courage and accountability, not concealment,” he added.
In a sharp rebuke, Nassir also accused the opposition of lacking a clear agenda, arguing that their politics is driven more by disruption than by policy alternatives.
He said ODM remains focused on offering solutions to Kenyans and contributing meaningfully to national governance, urging party leaders and supporters to remain disciplined and united as the country navigates political and economic challenges.
The remarks come amid growing debate within opposition ranks over strategy, alliances and the party’s future direction.
