NAIROBI, Kenya – Bonfire Adventures co-founder Sarah Kabu has found herself at the center of a social media storm after a viral CCTV video appeared to show her in an altercation with a young woman alleged to be her nanny.
The footage, widely circulated online, shows a heated confrontation, with Sarah appearing to push the woman out of her house as her husband, Simon Kabu, intervenes.
The incident, which unfolded near the kitchen, shows Sarah holding an object resembling a knife during the altercation.
In the wake of the uproar, Sarah took to her Instagram on Wednesday, December 4, to deny knowing the woman and accused unnamed parties of orchestrating a smear campaign against her.
“I understand that someone is claiming to be my househelp,” Sarah said in the video. “Right now, there is a paid campaign to say that someone is my househelp and I assaulted her. That is not my house help.”
Sarah further announced plans to introduce her domestic staff publicly to dispel rumors surrounding the allegations.
She also questioned the source of the leaked footage, claiming it was part of a larger effort to tarnish her reputation.
In contrast, Sarah’s husband, Simon Kabu, confirmed that the woman in the video was indeed a nanny employed at their residence.
Simon explained that the nanny had been professionally recruited and was helping care for his children and managing household chores.
“She was a professional nanny here in this house,” Simon said, adding that the woman had been working at the residence for about a month before the incident occurred. “I don’t know why the altercation happened, but the lady was hurt. My relationship with her and any other nanny has always been professional, employer and employee.”
Simon also dismissed speculation that he had an intimate relationship with the nanny, including rumors that she was pregnant with his child.
“These are baseless allegations. If anyone can prove otherwise, I will pay them,” he stated.
The incident has sparked intense debate online, with many questioning the couple’s conflicting accounts.
While some have expressed support for Sarah, others have called for greater accountability, given the seriousness of the allegations.
