NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its weekly forecast for August 5 to August 11, 2025, warning of a mix of cold mornings, scattered rainfall, and strong winds across several parts of the country.
According to the update, scattered showers are expected in parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Coast, and North-western Kenya.
While not widespread, the rainfall is anticipated to provide short-term relief to regions that have recently experienced prolonged dry conditions.
“The showers will remain scattered but may provide temporary relief for farmers and rangelands,” the department said.
Cold Spell to Persist in Several Regions
The forecast also signals a continuation of cold and cloudy weather over large parts of the country, particularly in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, South-Eastern Lowlands, and parts of the Rift Valley.
Residents should brace for significantly low temperatures, especially during the early morning and nighttime hours.
In contrast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya will continue to experience hot daytime conditions, with temperatures expected to rise above 30°C.
“Cold nights (below 10°C) are likely in parts of the Central Highlands, SE Lowlands, and the Rift Valley,” the report noted.
Strong Winds Expected in Coastal and Inland Regions
The department has also cautioned about strong southerly to south-easterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (equivalent to 12.86 metres per second), likely to affect:
- The Coastal strip
- Kenya’s territorial waters
- South-Eastern Lowlands
- North-Eastern and North-Western Kenya
The Met Department assured the public that it will continue monitoring weather patterns closely and issue regular updates to keep residents informed.
