Nairobi, Kenya- The Kenyan government has launched an investigation into the tragic fire that claimed the lives of 17 students at Hillside Endarasha Academy, Nyeri County, on Thursday night.
The devastating blaze also left more than 14 students seriously injured, casting a dark cloud over the nation as it grapples with the loss of young lives.
As authorities race to uncover the cause of the fire, details remain unclear.
The inferno, which tore through the boarding school’s dormitory, burned the victims beyond recognition, according to sources.
President William Ruto, who visited the affected families, expressed his condolences and ordered an immediate investigation.
“I instruct relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate this horrific incident. Those responsible will be held to account,” he declared.
The government’s probe will seek to uncover the cause of the fire and ensure that those at fault are held responsible.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Ministry of Education has teamed up with the Ministries of Interior and Health to manage the crisis and provide support to survivors.
In a statement, the Ministry of Education emphasized that it is coordinating efforts to ensure the injured students receive the best medical care.
The 14 students who were seriously injured are being treated in various hospitals, and the Ministry of Health has deployed additional resources to aid in their recovery.
