NAIROBI, Kenya — Parts of Nairobi and Nyeri counties will experience planned power interruptions on Monday, December 22, 2025, as electricity maintenance works are carried out, according to a notice issued by Kenya Power.
In the Nairobi Region, the outage will affect sections of Nairobi County, including Nasra Estate, Bee Centre, Sosion Estate, and parts of Kayole Spine Road, from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Areas listed to be without electricity include Mama Lucy Hospital, Nasra Estate, Naivas Supermarket, Bee Centre, Shell Petrol Station, Sosion Estate, Shujaa Mall, Soweto Police Station, Soweto Health Centre, and Soweto and surrounding customers.
Kenya Power said the interruption is necessary to allow for routine network maintenance aimed at improving the reliability and safety of supply.
Meanwhile, in the Mt. Kenya Region, parts of Nyeri County will also be affected during the same hours. The outage will cover the Kiandere, Gitero, and Karia areas.
Specific locations include Karia, parts of Kiamwathi, Kwa Tailor, Gatini, Gitero Market, Kwa Nderi, Gitero Polytechnic, Joma, Muthuaini Secondary School, Muthuaini Market, Muthuaini C/Factory, Kiamaguru, Gathima, Tetu TVC, Kagwathi Market, and adjacent customers.
The planned maintenance is part of ongoing efforts by the utility to upgrade and maintain electricity infrastructure across the country, particularly during the high-demand festive season.
Kenya Power typically advises customers to plan accordingly, especially businesses, health facilities and institutions that rely on an uninterrupted power supply.
Essential services are encouraged to use alternative power sources during the outage window.
The utility has, in previous advisories, said that power will be restored as soon as maintenance works are completed, although restoration times may vary depending on operational conditions.
Residents in the affected areas have been urged to take note of the schedule and make necessary arrangements ahead of Monday’s interruption.
