Kenya Prisons Service Recruitment: How to Apply for Professional Cadet Officers, Technicians, and Artisan Roles

Nairobi, Kenya- The Kenya Prisons Service (KPS), through the Ministry of Interior, has opened its doors for applications for professional cadet officers, technicians, and artisans.

This announcement outlines the eligibility criteria and application process for those interested in joining the service.

Who Can Apply?

As per the advert, prospective candidates must meet several key requirements.

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens, possess a valid ID, and have no criminal record.

The age limit varies depending on the position applied for: Diploma and Certificate holders must be between 18 and 28 years old, while Degree holders are eligible if they are between 18 and 30 years old.

Height requirements are also specified. Male candidates should be at least 5 feet 4 inches tall, while female candidates must be at least 5 feet 2 inches tall.

All applicants must be physically and medically fit, with clear vision and good hearing. Additionally, female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment or training.

Training and Qualifications

Successful applicants will undergo intensive training. Professional cadet officers will undergo a 13-month government-sponsored paramilitary training program, while technicians and artisans will complete a nine-month course.

To apply for the cadet officer position, candidates must have a relevant undergraduate degree from a recognized institution.

Technician candidates should possess a relevant certificate or diploma, with registration from the applicable professional body where necessary.

Artisan candidates, on the other hand, should have at least a D+ grade in their KCSE exams or its equivalent and hold a certificate in government trade tests or a recognized craft qualification.

How to Apply

All interested candidates should download and complete the PSC.2 form (REVISED 2007) available on Public Service Commission’s website.

Along with the form, applicants should submit photocopies of their academic and professional certificates, as well as their National ID.

The completed applications should be addressed to the Commissioner General of Prisons, Prisons Headquarters, P.O. Box 30175-0100, Nairobi, and delivered to Magereza House along Bishops Road, Community Area.

The deadline for submitting applications is April 30, 2025, by 5 p.m. Shortlisted candidates will be notified via print media.
