Kipchumba Murkomen Moved to Powerful Interior Ministry Docket

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has appointed Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to head the powerful Interior Ministry, a docket previously left vacant after Kithure Kindiki’s promotion to Deputy President.

The reassignment, announced Thursday as part of a broader Cabinet reshuffle, positions Murkomen at the helm of one of the country’s most influential ministries.

The Interior Ministry oversees national security, coordination of government operations, and internal administration—a role critical to the country’s governance.

Murkomen, a close ally of the president, has had a brief but visible tenure in the Sports Ministry.

His successor in that docket will be Salim Mvurya, who moves from the Investments, Trade, and Industry Ministry to take charge of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports.

To fill Mvurya’s position in the Trade Ministry, President Ruto has nominated former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, signaling a strategic blend of experienced politicians in key Cabinet roles.
