Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Karua emphasized her enduring personal ties with both leaders while maintaining a clear political divergence.
“H.E Uhuru Kenyatta remains my brother and friend, just like Raila does, but when it comes to their political direction, I beg to differ,” Karua stated.
The former Justice Minister highlighted the importance of respecting individual choices but warned that aligning with Ruto is unlikely to yield any transformative outcomes.
“If they are acting with the hope that joining Ruto will change him, they are totally mistaken. They have misread the man,” Karua remarked firmly.
Her comments come in the wake of a meeting between President Ruto and Uhuru at the latter’s Ichaweri home in Gatundu.
Following the meeting, Ruto appointed several individuals associated with Uhuru to significant positions in his administration, including former Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe and ex-Governors William Kabogo and Lee Kinyanjui.
Karua reiterated her unwavering commitment to the opposition, regardless of Raila Odinga’s political trajectory.
Addressing speculation about Raila potentially taking up a position within the African Union, Karua dismissed the idea that his absence would weaken their opposition role.
“Whether or not our brother Raila goes to the AU, we remain steadfast in the opposition. Our role is not tied to his presence; it is a duty we take seriously,” she asserted.
