ILLINOIS, U.S. – Mohammed Abduba Dida, a former Kenyan presidential candidate, has been released from prison in Illinois, United States, after serving part of his sentence for stalking and making threats.
Dida, who was sentenced to seven years on November 18, 2022, was granted parole and released from the Big Muddy Correctional Centre on April 3, 2025.
Prison records confirm that the 50-year-old will serve the remainder of his sentence outside prison walls. His projected release date is set for April 3, 2029.
Dida, a former teacher, was convicted on two charges—one for stalking and transmitting threats, which resulted in a two-year sentence, and another for aggravated stalking and violating a restraining order, which led to a five-year sentence.
Speaking to Daily Nation, Amina Liban, one of Dida’s three wives, shared that Dida is now focused on revitalizing his charitable work.
“He is living in his house in Minnesota. He had started the Dida Foundation International and had completed its registration just before he was arrested. He is currently looking for an office to rent in Minnesota,” Liban explained.
While Charity Navigator, a charity evaluation organization, recognizes Dida’s foundation, it has been unable to provide a full assessment due to the foundation’s limited operational data.
The organization stated, “We have not yet developed an algorithm to estimate its programmatic impact, and its programs are not direct services or heavily reliant on contributions from individual donors.”
In 2024, Dida filed a court case alleging that his constitutional rights had been violated, claiming that he had been denied access to educational and other programs during his incarceration.
