NAIROBI, Kenya—Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was all smiles as he visited the Interior and National Administration Ministry Headquarters at Harambee House in Nairobi.
On Thursday, October 31, 2024, President William Ruto appointed Mudavadi, who doubles as Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, as the Acting Cabinet Secretary of Interior and National Administration.
Mudavadi succeeded Kithure Kindiki, who was sworn in as Deputy President, replacing Rigathi Gachagua.
During the visit to the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination offices, Mudavadi met and held talks with Principal Secretary for State Department for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo.
“We engaged in a constructive discussion on the Ministry’s critical government programs and initiatives that impact our nation. PS @ray_omollo provided a comprehensive briefing on the country’s current security landscape and outlined the Ministry’s programs being implemented nationwide,” Mudavadi posted on his official X account.
Why Musalia Mudavadi visited Harambe House
The former vice president further said that the meeting followed his recent appointment as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Coordination by President Ruto in an acting capacity.
President Ruto announced an executive order published in a gazette notice on Thursday.
“According to Article 152 (5) (a) of the Constitution, Hon. Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi, E.G.H., Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, is assigned as the Acting Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Interior and National Administration,” the notice reads.
Why President William Ruto nominated Kithure Kindiki
Gachagua was removed from office on October 17, and Kindiki was nominated by President Ruto the following day.
On Thursday, October 31, 2024, the High Court in Nairobi cleared the way for a new Deputy President to take office as a court case challenging Gachagua’s impeachment continues.
The three-judge High Court in Nairobi set aside another court’s order to suspend Kindiki’s swearing-in, arguing that the suspension created a political vacuum.
Meanwhile, a statement by PS Omollo revealed that he briefed Mudavadi on the key initiatives currently being undertaken by the Interior Ministry to bring him up to speed with our structural framework and policy implementation efforts.
