President Ruto Signs IEBC Bill Into Law

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto signed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024, into law on Tuesday morning.

The ceremony, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), was attended by prominent leaders including Azimio la Umoja’s Raila Odinga and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

The bill’s passage and subsequent signing are the culmination of extensive deliberations and recommendations by the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), reflecting a broad consensus on the need for electoral reforms.

The IEBC (Amendment) Bill, 2024, aims to revamp the country’s electoral management system, paving the way for the appointment of new commissioners to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The reforms are expected to enhance the transparency, efficiency, and integrity of the electoral process, addressing long-standing issues and restoring public confidence in Kenya’s elections.

With the IEBC (Amendment) Bill now law, the next steps involve the swift implementation of its provisions, including the appointment of new IEBC commissioners.

These changes are anticipated to set the stage for more credible and efficient electoral processes, aligning with the aspirations of Kenyan citizens for a fair and transparent democratic system.
