NAIROBI, Kenya-In a sweeping reform, all National Police Service (NPS) officers have received a salary raise effective July 1, 2024.
Uniformed constables saw a 40 percent basic salary increase, with higher ranks receiving smaller adjustments, capped at 3 percent for senior officers.
In a statement by Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo, starting September 2024, the Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) and National Youth Service (NYS) officers will also benefit from the revised pay structure.
This comes as part of President William Ruto’s directive to implement recommendations from the Chief Justice (Rtd) David Maraga Reform Taskforce, aimed at enhancing welfare across Kenya’s disciplined services.
The four areas as identified in the Maraga report are leadership within the three services within the National Police Service, oversight and accountability, institutional capacity development and human resource management, and operational preparedness and logistical capability.
Technical teams set to oversee these reforms have since been formed.
“We reaffirm our commitment to fully implementing these reforms which are essential for strengthening the country’s security sector and enhancing service delivery to all Kenyans,” the PS said.
