Trump Claims Victory in 2024 Election as Key States Flip Red

Date:

FLORIDA, US — Former President Donald Trump declared victory early Wednesday morning in the 2024 presidential election, claiming a return to the White House after Fox News projected his win over Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee.

Addressing an enthusiastic crowd at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, Trump called it a “powerful mandate,” marking a historic comeback four years after he exited the Oval Office.

“America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate,” Trump said, as supporters erupted in applause.

Although Fox News projected Trump as the victor, other major networks hesitated to call the race definitively.

Yet, Trump’s momentum in critical battleground states — including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia — placed him firmly in the lead, with a strong showing in other undecided states, according to Edison Research.

Meanwhile, at Harris’s election watch party at Howard University, her alma mater, campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond addressed a somber crowd as the numbers trickled in, asking for patience as “there are still votes to count.” Harris, however, did not make a public statement.

Republicans not only celebrated Trump’s performance but also regained control of the Senate, flipping seats in West Virginia and Ohio.

However, the House of Representatives remained uncertain as results continued to come in, with Republicans defending a slim majority.

In an Election Day battle that pundits had pegged as a toss-up, Trump’s resurgence marks an astonishing recovery from January 6, 2021, when his political future seemed in jeopardy following the Capitol riot.

Despite the controversy, Trump’s message appears to have resonated across broader demographics in 2024.

According to exit polls from Edison Research, Trump significantly increased his share among Hispanic voters, gaining 45% of this crucial demographic — up 13 points from 2020.

His platform also saw traction among working-class voters impacted by inflation, with many citing economic conditions as their top issue.

Roughly one-third of voters prioritized economic concerns, with Trump commanding a significant lead in this group, winning 79% of their vote.

Nearly half of those surveyed said their household finances had worsened since 2020, aligning with their strong preference for Trump.

Global markets reflected confidence in a Trump victory even before the final results were tallied, as U.S. stock futures, the dollar, and cryptocurrency values rose late Tuesday night.

While Trump celebrated in Florida, Harris supporters began dispersing from Howard University after Richmond’s brief comments, hinting that the vice president might hold off on any public statements until additional votes were counted.

Despite a robust campaign aimed at energizing urban and suburban voters, Harris’s numbers in those regions fell short of the Democratic turnout for Joe Biden in 2020.

The gap underscored Trump’s ability to draw support from diverse locales, from rural and suburban regions to some traditionally Democratic-leaning urban areas.

Exit polls revealed a polarized electorate, with about 75% of voters expressing concern for the future of American democracy, reflecting a tense and deeply divided nation.

Both candidates had doubled down on this sentiment: Trump, with warnings of election integrity issues, and Harris, cautioning against the risks she perceived in a Trump second term.

In a last-minute post on his Truth Social platform, Trump alleged without evidence that voter fraud was occurring in Philadelphia and Detroit.

Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey dismissed his claims as “nonsense,” while Philadelphia City Commissioner Seth Bluestein called the allegations “baseless” on X, formerly Twitter.

Trump’s third White House run culminated in a whirlwind campaign season marked by record-breaking voter turnout and controversies, including two reported assassination attempts against him and Harris’s rise to the top of the Democratic ticket following Biden’s unexpected withdrawal from the race.

As America awaits a formal call, history stands poised to be made regardless of the outcome. Harris, the first female vice president, could shatter barriers as the first woman, Black, and South Asian American president.

Alternatively, Trump would make his own history as the only president in over a century to serve two non-consecutive terms, his victory a testament to a contentious and resilient political comeback.
