ELGEYO MARAKWET, Kenya – Two police officers are in custody following a bizarre incident at Kaptagat Police Station in Elgeyo Marakwet County, where a missing cow was reportedly slaughtered within the station premises.
The arrest has sparked public outrage and prompted a probe by local authorities.
According to a report filed at the station, Josphine Kandie reported her cows missing around 6 PM on Monday evening.
She later received information that one of the animals had been slaughtered inside Kaptagat Police Station.
Upon rushing to the scene, an angry crowd allegedly confronted those involved, forcing them to flee.

Senior police officials, including the Sub County Police Commander (SCPC), the Sub County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO), and the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), visited the scene to secure and document evidence.
In the ensuing chaos, two police constables, identified as Chtispus Butali and Samuel Mbugua Njuguna, were arrested after being mentioned as suspects.
They are currently being held as investigations continue, with detectives from DCI Keiyo South leading the case.
While the situation grew tense, it was ultimately contained with the intervention of the area Member of County Assembly (MCA) John Kimeli.
He said cases of stock theft had surged over the last three months, with locals accusing the police of colluding with criminals.
“For too long, residents have reported that police are aiding livestock thieves,” Kimeli said. “We demand the immediate transfer of all officers from this station.”
