NAIROBI, Kenya – The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will hold its party nominations on September 20, 2025, to select candidates for the upcoming by-elections, the party has announced.
In a notice issued Thursday, the UDA National Elections Board said the primaries will cover vacant positions in the National Assembly, Senate, and County Assembly wards across the country.
Aspirants have until September 5, 2025, at 5pm to register through the party’s online portal. The registration window opened on August 14.
“Interested candidates are encouraged to apply for nomination by registering through the UDA party portal accessible at www.uda.ke,” the notice stated.
Nomination fees range from Sh25,000 to Sh250,000 depending on the position and category.
Male aspirants for Member of County Assembly will pay Sh50,000, while women, youth, and persons with disabilities will pay Sh25,000.
For National Assembly and Senate seats, men will pay Sh250,000 and women Sh125,000.
The announcement comes days after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) set November 27, 2025, as the date for all by-elections.
The IEBC has already gazetted 16 ward by-elections, including Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Kariobangi North (Nairobi), Kisa East (Kakamega), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Purko (Kajiado), and Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, and Ekerenyo (Nyamira).
Others are Chemundu/Kapng’etuny (Nandi), Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), Tembelio (Uasin Gishu), Lake Zone and Nanaam (Turkana), and Narok Town (Narok).
A second gazette notice, to be published on August 11, will cover the Senate by-election in Baringo County, National Assembly contests in Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja constituencies, and the County Assembly seat in Kabuchai/Chwele Ward (Bungoma).
IEBC has directed political parties to submit the names and specimen signatures of authorised officials, as well as the names of nominated candidates, by September 17.
The same deadline applies for independent candidates to submit their names and symbols.
