Date:

Oyugis, Kenya – Boyd Were, son of the late Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were, has won the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket in the upcoming Kasipul by-election.

Boyd emerged victorious in the party primaries held on Thursday, securing 18,210 votes to clinch the flagbearer position. His closest rival, Newton Ogada, trailed with 3,037 votes, while Daniel Okindo Majiwa garnered 621. Dr. Adel Ottoman came fourth with 463, as George Otieno Ajo Mbuta closed the tally with 396 votes.

Returning Officer Felix Ngala announced the results at the Rachuonyo South Sub-county headquarters in Oyugis, officially declaring Boyd as the ODM candidate.

Homa Bay Governor and ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga lauded Boyd’s win, describing it as the people’s will. She urged the other aspirants to rally behind the nominee as the party gears up for the by-election.

I wish to congratulate Boyd Were wholeheartedly for his victory in the ODM party primaries. The people of Kasipul have spoken, and they have chosen a candidate they believe will champion their interests,” said Governor Wanga.

She added, “This is the time for unity. I urge all leaders and supporters to back Boyd fully as we now focus on the greater task of winning the by-election and bringing transformative development to Kasipul.

The by-election follows the passing of Charles Ong’ondo Were, whose son is now seeking to continue his legacy under the ODM banner.
