I Will Fight To The End- DP Rigathi Gachagua

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has categorically rejected any suggestion that he will resign, despite mounting pressure over an impending impeachment motion filed against him in Parliament.

Speaking from his official residence in Karen on Monday night, Gachagua dismissed calls for his resignation as laughable and reaffirmed his commitment to remaining in office.

“I have no intention whatsoever to resign from this job. I will fight to the end,” Gachagua declared, insisting that stepping down is not an option.

The impeachment motion, spearheaded by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, accuses the Deputy President of corruption, gross misconduct, violation of the Constitution, and undermining President William Ruto’s leadership.

Among the allegations is the claim that Gachagua accumulated Sh5.2 billion in unexplained wealth over the past two years.

Dismissing the charges as baseless, Gachagua labeled the motion a politically motivated witch hunt aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

He maintained that he would rely on the country’s judicial system to clear his name.

“The impeachment of a deputy president elected by 7.2 million people is not a small matter that can be swept away by a few MPs and senators,” Gachagua argued. “I have full confidence in independent institutions to deliver justice, and I have no doubt I will be vindicated.”

The Deputy President revealed that some individuals had attempted to persuade him to take the “easier” route and step down. However, he said he refused to entertain such suggestions.

“Please, I don’t want to be enemies with you. When you’re given such silly messages to persuade me to resign, don’t bring them to me,” he said, doubling down on his refusal to quit.

Gachagua also rejected accusations that he had undermined President Ruto, reaffirming his loyalty to the head of state.

He vowed to continue serving as Deputy President, confident that the impeachment motion would ultimately fail.

“This impeachment will be thrown out, and I will continue with my duties as Deputy President. Anyone sending fillers for me to resign is a joker,” he said.

Emphasizing that sovereign power rests with the people, Gachagua said he was elected through a democratic process and sees no reason to leave office.

“I did not give myself this job; I was given it by the people of Kenya. I have done nothing wrong against them,” he reiterated.
