Natembeya Fires Back at Critics Over Abduction Crisis Remarks: “Truthful Servant”

Date:

BUNGOMA, Kenya – Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has defended his integrity and leadership record following criticism at the funeral of the late Mama Anne Nanyama, mother of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

In a statement, Natembeya condemned what he described as “shameful and mannerless utterances” from political leaders at the event, who accused him of complicity in the ongoing abduction and extra-judicial killing crisis.

Natembeya, a former Regional Commissioner, rejected claims that he had knowledge or involvement in any such incidents.

“It should be known that George Natembeya served as a diligent, honest, and truthful servant to the people of Kenya,” he stated. “I resigned as Regional Commissioner rather than be enmeshed in scandal.”

The governor expressed disappointment over remarks made by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who had accused him of hypocrisy and failing to act on abductions during his tenure in the previous administration.

Natembeya termed the accusations baseless and a distraction from the real issue at hand—the growing insecurity affecting Kenyan families.

Natembeya’s statement emphasized the government’s responsibility to address the abduction crisis.

He criticized attempts to trivialize the issue, particularly comments suggesting that some individuals were staging abductions for sympathy or financial gain.

“Let it not be lost that trivializing cases of abductions is undermining the President,” Natembeya said. “We have a duty to protect our people and bring clarity to the families of the abducted. The anguish of families who do not know the whereabouts of their loved ones is a tragedy.”

The governor called for a collective effort to end the crisis, urging leaders to focus on solutions rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric.

He reminded Kenyans that security is a fundamental right that should not be politicized.

Natembeya also highlighted the emotional toll on families affected by abductions, many of whom are left in limbo, not knowing whether their loved ones are alive or dead.

He urged the government to act decisively, either by rescuing the missing or providing closure to grieving families.

“Our children are getting lost and killed. That is the position,” he reiterated.

In his parting remarks, Natembeya stood by his record and his commitment to serving the people of Kenya with integrity.

“The truth does not mind being questioned. It does not like being challenged,” he concluded, reaffirming his dedication to transparency and accountability.
