Over 200 Families Displaced as Fire Ravages Soweto Highrise in Langata

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – More than 200 families were left homeless after a fierce fire tore through Soweto Highrise ward in Langata, Nairobi, on Friday night, reducing homes and businesses to ashes.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but it swiftly engulfed several residential structures and shops before firefighters managed to contain it. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Langata MP Phelix Odiwuor, who shared footage of the raging blaze on social media, assured residents that emergency teams had brought the situation under control.

“The fire was contained, and everyone is safe. Pray for Langata as we start the process of rebuilding Soweto,” he said.

The incident is the latest in a series of fires that have devastated the area.

In July last year, another inferno—believed to have been caused by an electrical fault—destroyed multiple homes, injuring several people as they scrambled to salvage their belongings.

Security authorities have launched investigations to determine the cause of the latest fire, as affected families begin the difficult process of rebuilding their lives.
