Police Raid Jimi Wanjigi’s Home in Muthaiga

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Police Officers raided businessman Jimi Wanjigi on Thursday evening, August 8 at his upscale Muthaiga neighborhood in what has been described as a targeted raid.

The operation, involving multiple law enforcement agencies, left residents and onlookers puzzled, raising more questions than answers about the true intent behind the raid.

Witnesses reported that the incident began when a black Prado TX, suspected of illicit activities, was seen racing down the streets of Muthaiga before abruptly parking outside Wanjigi’s home.

The occupants of the vehicle quickly disembarked and vanished before police arrived just minutes later, surrounding the car with a heavy presence of armed officers.

Initial reports suggest the car had been spotted earlier along Limuru Road, allegedly involved in distributing money, a claim that authorities say they were investigating.

When officers attempted to apprehend the individuals linked to the car, they reportedly fled, disappearing into the nearby Karura Forest.

As tensions mounted, Wanjigi expressed his shock and confusion over the police’s sudden appearance at his residence.

“The police have decided to raid my home,” he remarked, condemning the operation as an unwarranted invasion of his privacy.

The businessman, known for his outspoken political views, questioned the legality of the police’s actions and hinted that the raid might be an attempt to intimidate him due to his political stance.

The scene was reminiscent of past confrontations between Wanjigi and law enforcement, bringing to mind the infamous October 2017 standoff when his Muthaiga home was besieged by police.

During that raid, officers claimed to have recovered weapons, leading to accusations that Wanjigi was involved in illegal arms trading—a charge he has consistently denied.

Wanjigi’s son, Maina, weighed in on the recent raid, stating that the family was not surprised by the police action.

“It’s not shocking. It’s not the first time we have been raided,” Maina said, implying that the raid was politically motivated. “Why is it that when you show an opinion against the government, you are raided?”

The police eventually left Wanjigi’s residence without forcibly entering the home but towed the Prado TX for further investigation.
