NAIROBI, Kenya – It was a show of power and might as the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration rolled up the red carpet for the swearing-in of deputy president designate Kithure Kindiki.
Kindiki, the immediate former Interior Cabinet Secretary and his spouse Dr. Joyce Kithure took their seats among invited guests, for the swearing in ceremony a few minutes before 10:15am.
A group of traditional dancers donned in African regalia welcomed the couple as they came down the stairs of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), the venue of the ceremony.

Others who arrived shortly after Kindiki included Chief Justice Martha Koome and Winfridah Boyani Mokaya, the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary in Kenya.
The ceremony kicked off immediately after the arrival of President William Ruto and Mama Rachel Ruto who were flanked by a host of political leaders drawn from across the political divide.
Earlier, the motorcade of Kindiki had sneaked itself to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) from the Southern Bypass connecting through Lang’ata Road before stopping at Harambee House, his immediate former office where he bid farewell to his former colleagues including top National Police Service (NPS) officers.

The swearing-in ceremony kicked off with prayers before the Head of Public Felix Koskei made his remarks before handing over the programme to the Judiciary for the formal commencement of the swearing-in ceremony.
To kick off the ceremony, the Judicial mace was placed in its rightful location marking the official commencement of the process.
Kindiki took the oath of office at around 10:45am in a process overseen by the Judiciary top leadership.
Earlier, Kenyans queued in large numbers at KICC to witness Kindiki’s swearing-in as the second in command with security being beefed up at the venue.
President Ruto put forward the nomination of Kindiki for the position of Deputy President, following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
