Postmortem Confirms CEO Susan Njoki Was Strangled

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – A postmortem has confirmed that Susan Kamengere Njoki, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Toto Touch Kenya, died from manual strangulation—deepening the mystery surrounding her alleged abduction and forced admission to a private mental health facility in Nairobi.

Njoki, 38, died on July 15, just hours after reportedly being restrained in her home, injected without consent, and taken to Chiromo Hospital under disputed circumstances.

Her family insists she was in sound mental health and preparing for a high-level job interview abroad.

Government pathologist Dr. J.N. Ndung’u, who led the autopsy at Montezuma Monalisa funeral home on Tuesday, said the examination was conclusive and conducted in the presence of six independent pathologists.

“There were features of compression to the neck and lack of oxygen in the blood—findings that are consistent with manual strangulation. All parties present agreed on the cause of death,” Dr. Ndung’u stated.

He confirmed Njoki died within four hours of her last meal and passed away inside the hospital, not en route.

Allegations of Forced Hospitalization

Njoki’s family alleges she was forcibly injected and abducted from her home by individuals claiming to act on instructions from a medical professional identified as Dr. Onyancha.

She was reportedly given two more injections upon arrival at the hospital—without any explanation.

Her sister recounted a distressing phone call during the ordeal.

“She said people claiming to be from Chiromo were at the house. They injected her and insisted she needed to be taken to the hospital,” she said.

Audio recordings from Njoki’s final hours, shared by the family, captured her pleading with those restraining her.

“Why are you forcing me to take injections? I have an interview tomorrow. Do you think they’d schedule one with a mad woman?” she asked.

She identified her husband as being involved in her forced admission and referenced a previous incident where he allegedly pushed for her prolonged detention at a facility.

Justice Demands and DCI Investigations

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an inquiry into her death and the circumstances surrounding her admission.

Njoki’s family is calling for a full judicial inquest, supported by their legal team.

Njoki previously battled depression but had reportedly recovered. Her family maintains that she was in a stable condition and that no legal or medical justification was provided for her involuntary admission.

Outpouring of Support and Advocacy

Toto Touch Kenya, the organisation Njoki founded to advocate for marginalised communities, has temporarily suspended operations in mourning.

In a statement, the organization vowed to champion reforms in mental health laws and protections for the vulnerable.

A candlelight vigil held on July 20 in Nairobi drew hundreds of supporters, activists, and public figures demanding justice and transparency.

Njoki is remembered as a fearless advocate for dignity, equity, and human rights.

Her death has triggered public outcry and renewed scrutiny of Kenya’s mental health protocols and involuntary admission procedures.
