Rigathi Gachagua to Unveil Mt. Kenya’s Political Roadmap on February 9

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has set February 9, 2025, as the date for unveiling an interim report on the political direction of Mt. Kenya.

Speaking at a Sunday church service in Mathioya, Murang’a County, Gachagua announced that he would present his findings during a roundtable discussion with journalists from various media outlets.

The move follows months of intense consultations with regional leaders, signaling a potential shake-up in Kenya’s political landscape.

Gachagua has been actively meeting leaders, business figures, and professionals at his Mathira residence, gathering views on the best way forward for the Mt. Kenya region.

While his initial focus was on local leadership, the consultations have expanded to include leaders from the Maa, Kisii, Nyanza, and Western Kenya regions.

“I had promised to release the report by January 31, but due to the overwhelming number of consultations, we’ll unveil it on February 9,” he said.

According to Gachagua, this delay was necessary to incorporate the perspectives of a broader audience, hinting at the possibility of a national political movement rather than a regionally confined strategy.

New Party? Political Alliance? 2027 Strategy?

Since his impeachment in October 2024, Gachagua has accused the government of attempting to sideline Mt. Kenya leaders, claiming the region’s influence is being systematically weakened.

To counter this, he has been forging alliances and engaging key stakeholders in discussions about a new political course.

With the 2027 elections fast approaching, speculation is mounting that he may announce a new political party or a broad-based coalition to strengthen his position nationally.
