Staying Safe This Festive Season: Ministry of Health Issues Holiday Advisory

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The festive season is a time for joy, celebration, and connection with loved ones. But according to the Ministry of Health, it’s also a time to remain vigilant about personal safety and health.

Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni Muriuki has issued a detailed advisory urging Kenyans to take extra precautions to ensure a safe and healthy holiday season.

From the kitchen to the roads, vigilance is key this holiday season. The Ministry’s advisory emphasizes strict hygiene practices when preparing meals to prevent foodborne illnesses.

Tips include washing hands frequently, thoroughly cooking meals, keeping raw and cooked foods separate, and using only treated or boiled water for cooking and drinking.

When it comes to road safety, the message is clear: avoid drinking and driving, ensure vehicles are roadworthy, and take regular breaks during long journeys.

By practicing these measures, Kenyans can reduce accidents and ensure safe travels for their families.

Maintaining Wellness: From Public Safety to Mental Health

Public spaces can be bustling during the holidays, but staying alert in crowded areas is essential. The Ministry recommends keeping personal belongings secure, knowing emergency contacts, and supervising children closely.

Physical and mental health also take center stage in the advisory. Kenyans are encouraged to practice good respiratory hygiene, stay hydrated, and dress appropriately for weather conditions.

For those managing chronic illnesses like diabetes or HIV, carrying adequate medication for the holidays is crucial.

Mental health isn’t overlooked either. Balancing social commitments, ensuring sufficient rest, engaging in physical activities, and moderating alcohol consumption are all part of the Ministry’s suggestions for maintaining emotional well-being.

As families flock to pools, rivers, and beaches, the Ministry has underscored the importance of water safety.

Supervising children, avoiding swimming alone, and steering clear of alcohol before water activities are simple but life saving tips.

The Ministry of Health’s advisory is a timely reminder that the holiday season is best enjoyed with precautions in place.

By prioritizing health and safety, Kenyans can make this festive season one filled with joy, laughter, and peace of mind.
