EACC Arrests Ramagon Directors Over Sh60M Procurement Fraud

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Three directors of Ramagon Construction Company have been arrested over a Sh60 million fraud scandal tied to a public works project at Matili Technical Training Institute (MTTI) in Bungoma County.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said Abdi Barre Abdi, Hassan Bare Abdi, and Nagenye Mohamud Dahir were taken into custody on Monday as part of ongoing investigations into procurement fraud and collusion with government officials.

At the heart of the case is a contract for the construction of a twin workshop complex at MTTI.

According to investigators, the contract’s original value was Sh29.3 million but was later inflated to Sh59 million—nearly double the initial cost.

The EACC alleges that this led to an overpayment of Sh22 million for work that was never completed.

In a separate but connected scheme, the company is also accused of making false claims worth Sh9 million.

This allegedly led to the questionable auction of a driving school vehicle owned by the institution—valued at Sh5.4 million but sold off for just Sh1.2 million.

“The suspects were arrested in Bungoma and are currently being processed at the EACC Headquarters and the Commission’s Western Regional Office,” said a statement from the agency.
