NAIROBI, Kenya – Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has suggested that a new political party may soon emerge following a widening divide within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Muhia, speaking on a morning show on a local TV station, hinted that Gachagua and his supporters could be gearing up for a significant political shift ahead of the 2027 elections.
The revelation comes amid increasing tensions within UDA, as Gachagua continues to clash with party leadership following his recent impeachment and replacement by deputy president Kithure Kindiki.
This shake-up has reportedly fueled Gachagua’s determination to establish a political base more aligned with his interests and influence.
Though no name for the potential new party has been confirmed, sources close to Gachagua suggest he may be eyeing a coalition with influential opposition leaders, including Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa.
Gachagua is said to be considering various options, including acquiring an existing party or establishing a new one from scratch.
Insiders have hinted that the former ruling Jubilee Party could be a possible vehicle for his political comeback, as it holds established support networks and branding.
In recent weeks, Gachagua has been notably active in Mt. Kenya, attending church gatherings and funeral services to rally his base, often using these appearances to address his critics and reassure supporters.
He has also urged young people, especially Gen Z voters, to prepare for the 2027 election by obtaining national IDs and registering as voters, with the promise of a more detailed strategy to come.
In a weekend address to his supporters, Gachagua hinted at a return to the political scene, saying, “I’m talking to a lot of people, and when the time is right, I will tell you. We will share our plans and listen to your input to ensure we never face similar challenges again.”
