NAIROBI, Kenya – Confusion continues to swirl around the dramatic disappearance of Juja MP George Koimburi after detectives arrested Cyrus Kieru Muhia, a close associate believed to be linked to the incident.
The Sunday ordeal, which began with a church event and ended in a hospital bed, has now sparked national attention.
Koimburi’s Ally Arrested as Investigators Focus on Subaru Clue
Authorities from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday apprehended a known associate of the MP, following claims that his Subaru vehicle had been used during Koimburi’s alleged abduction.
Police Spokesperson Michael Muchiri confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations were ongoing to establish the truth behind the claims made by both Koimburi and those close to him.
The MP reportedly went missing on Sunday while attending a church function. His disappearance sparked alarm and speculation until he resurfaced at Karen Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The situation grew more complex after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja revealed that police were denied access to the lawmaker at Karen Hospital.
Koimburi’s family has reportedly instructed hospital staff to block all visitors—including detectives—further stalling the investigation.
Adding fuel to the fire, opposition leaders led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have claimed that the MP may have been drugged with a chemical agent that temporarily left him unable to speak.
Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula weighed in on the matter during Tuesday’s parliamentary session, confirming that Koimburi had allegedly been found in a coffee plantation. This contradicts earlier speculation that he had been held on a private property in Ruiru.
Jimmy Wanjigi’s Farm Ruled Out Amid Video Mismatch
Meanwhile, speculation that businessman and politician Jimmy Wanjigi’s farm in Ruiru had been used as a holding location was swiftly discredited by the police.
A site inspection revealed clear discrepancies between the farm’s actual terrain and the environment shown in a viral video circulating online.
“Officers thoroughly documented the area and found mismatches in vegetation and road patterns compared to the video,” read a statement by the National Police Service.
