NAIROBI, Kenya – If you thought the recent showers were just passing through, think again.
The latest five-day weather forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department predicts continued rainfall across multiple regions.
Some areas will experience isolated heavy downpours, while others will sizzle under soaring temperatures.
Rainfall Expected Across Most Parts of the Country
Brace yourself for more rain, especially in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Southeastern Lowlands, Coast, Northeastern, and Northwestern Kenya.
According to Mary Githinji, who issued the forecast on behalf of the Meteorological Services Director, heavy downpours exceeding 50mm within 24 hours are likely.
Regions such as Kitui, Makueni, Isiolo, Embu, Murang’a, Migori, Uasin Gishu, Taita Taveta, and West Pokot have already received substantial rainfall.
Mayori Rainfall Station in Embu County recorded a staggering 155.4mm in just one week.
Temperature Extremes: Sweltering Heat vs. Chilly Nights
While some areas are drenched, others are facing intense heat.
The forecast highlights coastal, northeastern, and northwestern regions, where daytime temperatures will soar beyond 30°C.
On the other hand, parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the Central Rift Valley will experience chilly nights, with temperatures dropping below 10°C.
This means residents should prepare for varied weather conditions.
Expect scorching heat in Mombasa, Mandera, and Turkana and cold evenings in Nyeri, Meru, and Nakuru.

The rains will continue throughout the week, affecting different areas in unique ways.
- Western Kenya & Rift Valley (Kakamega, Bungoma, Kericho, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu): Morning rains, afternoon showers, and nighttime thunderstorms.
- Nairobi & Central Kenya (Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Laikipia): Scattered morning rains, with afternoon and night showers.
- Northeastern & Southeastern Regions (Marsabit, Mandera, Garissa, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni): Frequent thunderstorms and intermittent rain showers.
- Coastal Kenya (Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale): Consistent showers throughout the day and night.
Some regions might experience flooding and transport disruptions.
