NAIROBI, Kenya — A private clinic owner from Kakamega County has been charged at Milimani Law Courts for allegedly defrauding the Social Health Authority (SHA) of more than Sh2.5 million through falsified medical claims.
Josephat Ouma Omoto, proprietor of Zion Ahadi Mediclinic Limited, faces multiple charges, including forging patient records, uttering false inpatient discharge summaries, and acquiring and using proceeds of crime, according to court documents.
The court has ordered a pre-bail report to guide subsequent directions on bond and bail. Prosecutors say the alleged scheme involved submitting fraudulent claims to SHA, resulting in the wrongful disbursement of public funds.
Authorities emphasized that the case forms part of a broader crackdown on fraudulent medical claims, which undermine Kenya’s health system and divert resources intended for legitimate patients.
Investigators warned other healthcare providers against attempting similar schemes, highlighting that the SHA and law enforcement agencies are committed to safeguarding public resources and prosecuting offenders.
The matter will return to court once the pre-bail report is submitted, with further proceedings expected to determine bail conditions and the next stages of the investigation.
