NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya has recorded a new case of Mpox in Makueni County, bringing the national tally to 38, the Ministry of Health has announced.
According to the ministry, the confirmed cases are spread across 12 counties, with Nakuru leading at 10 cases, followed by Mombasa (8), Busia (4), and several others, including Nairobi, Kajiado, and Bungoma.
Authorities have identified 255 contacts linked to the cases, with 246 completing the recommended 21-day monitoring period. Nine of these contacts have since tested positive.
The government has ramped up surveillance efforts, screening over 3.2 million travelers at airports and border points. Of the 412 samples tested so far, 38 have returned positive results.

To curb the spread, the ministry has deployed rapid response teams in high-risk counties to conduct active case searches, contact tracing, and management of confirmed cases.
Mental health and psychosocial support are also being offered to those affected.
Public awareness campaigns are ongoing, particularly in schools, where the Ministry of Health is collaborating with the Ministry of Education to strengthen infection prevention and control.
Health workers have been urged to remain vigilant and adhere to infection control measures.
The public is advised to avoid close contact with infected individuals, use protective equipment when caring for the sick, maintain hand hygiene, and report suspected cases to health authorities.
The ministry continues to monitor the situation closely as it works to contain the outbreak.
