Nairobi, Kenya- Nairobi motorists should brace for major traffic changes today as the National Police Service (NPS) implements temporary road closures ahead of the Kenya vs Madagascar CHAN 2024 quarterfinal at Kasarani Stadium.
The match kicks off at 5 PM, but heavy traffic is already being reported on key routes.
Below is the full list of diversions:
1. Nairobi CBD → Thika Road (Ruiru/Juja/Thika)
Motorists heading from the CBD to Thika Road must use Kiambu Road at Exit 4. A roadblock at Muthaiga has been set up.
2. Thika Superhighway → Mwiki
Vehicles traveling to Mwiki from Thika Road will be diverted via Ruaka – Baba Ndogo – Lucky Summer – Nairobi River – Mwiki.
3. Thika/Juja/Ruiru → Nairobi CBD
Traffic from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru heading into the CBD should use the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road. A roadblock at Ruiru Interchange is in place.
4. Githurai → Nairobi CBD
Motorists from Githurai going to the CBD should use the Githurai 44 – Kiambu Road route.
5. Fans Heading to Kasarani Stadium
Supporters without vehicle access passes should take the Service Lane at Exit 7 or Exit 8 to reach Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Heavy Traffic Already Building
Photos seen by Y News show massive traffic along the Northern Bypass following the Thika Road closure. Police have diverted vehicles to alternative routes to ease congestion.
The National Police Service has deployed additional officers across Nairobi to enforce traffic rules and maintain order.
Motorists are urged to cooperate with police, stick to the designated diversions, and plan journeys early to avoid delays.
Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against those who defy the traffic regulations.
