NAIVASHA, Kenya – Beth Wahito, a nominated Member of the Nyandarua County Assembly and a respected veteran in local politics, has died following a tragic road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway late Saturday night.
The accident occurred around 11:00 PM as Wahito was reportedly returning home after attending a budget committee meeting in Naivasha.
According to Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker Stephen Wachira Waiganjo, Wahito was attempting to cross the highway at an intersection when she was hit by a Guardian Angel bus, killing her on the spot.
The news has shocked political circles in the region, with Speaker Waiganjo issuing a heartfelt tribute describing Wahito as a courageous and principled leader.
“She led with courage, strength, and determination. She was not afraid to speak up for what she believed was right and worked tirelessly to uplift the lives of the underserved in her community,” read part of his official statement.
Wahito’s political career spanned over three decades. She previously held key leadership roles within the Democratic Party, later serving as the NARC-Kenya chairperson in Nyandarua, and most recently as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) coordinator for Kinangop.
Her long-standing dedication to grassroots leadership made her a well-known and deeply respected figure in county politics.
The wrecked vehicle from the crash has since been towed to Naivasha Police Station, as investigations continue.
Beth Wahito’s death marks a significant loss for Nyandarua County, where she was widely known for her outspoken advocacy, policy involvement, and mentorship of young leaders—particularly women in politics.
