Rain Expected in Parts of Kenya as Met Department Issues Weekly Forecast

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has projected light to moderate rainfall in several parts of the country between November 11 and November 17, 2025, even as most regions remain largely sunny and dry.

In its weekly weather outlook issued on Monday, November 10, the department noted that rainfall will be experienced in sections of the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the Rift Valley, the Coast, the Southeast lowlands, and Northeastern Kenya.

“The forecast indicates that while much of the country will experience sunny and dry conditions, several areas will continue to receive intermittent rainfall,” said the weatherman.

According to the report, daytime temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C in the Coast, Northeastern, and Northwestern regions, as well as parts of the Southeast lowlands and the Highlands west of the Rift Valley.

Nighttime temperatures, however, are projected to drop below 10°C in some parts of the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mount Kilimanjaro.

In the Highlands west of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, counties such as Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok are expected to experience sunny intervals in the morning, followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms in some locations.

Nights are likely to be partly cloudy, with isolated showers possible.

In the Northwestern region, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, the weather will remain predominantly hot, with sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights.

The Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its surrounding counties — Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Laikipia, and Tharaka-Nithi — may experience cloudy mornings with occasional rainfall before clearing to sunny intervals later in the day.

Afternoon and nighttime showers are also expected in some areas.

In Northeastern Kenya, covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, the forecast predicts sunny conditions during the day and partly cloudy nights, with a chance of morning rains and isolated afternoon or evening showers.

For the Southeastern lowlands — Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta — as well as inland parts of Tana River County, the department forecasts morning rains with possible afternoon and evening showers.

At the Coast, encompassing Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the coastal strip of Tana River, the forecast anticipates sunny days with partly cloudy nights. However, occasional morning and afternoon showers may occur in some locations.

The Met Department has urged Kenyans, especially farmers and travelers, to plan activities accordingly, as localized rain showers may disrupt outdoor events. The public is also advised to stay updated through official weather channels.

The forecast comes as Kenya continues to experience variable weather conditions associated with the ongoing short rains season, which typically peaks between October and December.
