Rapper Cardi B has confirmed she is expecting a child with her boyfriend, New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, ending weeks of speculation.
In an interview with CBS on Wednesday, the Grammy-winning artist said: “I’m excited. I’m happy.”
Cardi B — born Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar — went public with her relationship with Diggs earlier this year.
The news comes months after she split from her husband and fellow rapper Offset, with whom she shares three children: seven-year-old Kulture, four-year-old Wave, and one-year-old Blossom.
Diggs, 31, also has an eight-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
Balancing Music and Motherhood
The 32-year-old star is in the middle of promoting her new album Am I the Drama, set for release Friday. She told CBS that despite the challenges, she feels empowered.
“I feel like I’m in a good space. I feel very strong. I feel very powerful that I’m doing all this work — while I’m creating a baby. Me and my man, we’re very supportive of each other,” she said.
The announcement follows a turbulent period for the rapper. Earlier this month, she was cleared in a $24 million civil assault case in which she had been accused of slashing a woman’s face with her fingernails.
Cardi admitted that the pressures of her career, coupled with the pregnancy, have been emotionally demanding.
“Two weeks ago I was literally having a panic attack. I was crying and crying and crying, just because I was just getting really nervous with, you know, the whole album rollout,” she said.
