Spotify has unveiled a new beta feature that allows Premium subscribers to add custom transitions between songs in their playlists, giving users more creative control over how their music flows.
The feature, dubbed “Mix”, is rolling out globally and lets listeners apply automatic transitions or fine-tune them manually for a more DJ-like experience inside the app.
Users can choose from presets such as Fade and Rise or dive deeper into advanced tools that allow adjustments to volume, EQ, and effect curves.
Visual waveforms and beat data are also available to help pinpoint the perfect transition moments.
“Mix” is designed to appeal to both casual listeners and playlist “experts” who want to craft seamless sets.
Spotify has also offered tips for first-timers, such as pairing tracks with compatible tempos and keys and prioritising transition-friendly genres like house and techno.
Beyond listening to playlists
Once customised, playlists can be saved, shared, and even collaboratively edited between Premium users.
Spotify has also added new visual elements, including stickers and labels for cover art, to enhance personalisation.
The launch underscores Spotify’s focus on strengthening the Premium experience as it faces growing competition in the streaming market.
The company reports that users have created nearly nine billion playlists to date, underscoring how central playlists have become to its ecosystem.
By allowing users to shape not just what they listen to, but how they listen, Spotify hopes the new tool will keep subscribers more deeply engaged.
