54 Illegal Gambling Machines Seized in Mlolongo Crackdown

Date:

MACHAKOS, Kenya – Authorities in Machakos County have intensified their crackdown on illegal gambling operations, seizing 54 slot betting machines in a raid in Mlolongo Township.

The operation, conducted on Tuesday, targeted illicit gaming businesses, particularly along Madharau Street.

Machakos County Police Commander Patrick Lobolia confirmed the confiscation, stating that the raid was carried out by a multi-agency team comprising officers from the Kenya Police Service, the provincial administration, and the Machakos County Government.

“This operation was part of our ongoing efforts to root out illegal gambling within Mlolongo and its environs. The 54 slot machines we impounded are now in custody at the Mlolongo assistant county commissioner’s office, awaiting destruction,” Lobolia said on Wednesday in Machakos Town.

The crackdown, which was reported to Mlolongo Police Station at 2:30 PM, is part of a broader campaign to eliminate gambling-related activities across the county.

Lobolia emphasized that the authorities are determined to rid Machakos of illicit trade, including illegal alcohol and narcotics.

“We are continuously stepping up these crackdowns to safeguard the well-being of our citizens. Officers have been directed to strictly enforce the law and take action against all forms of criminal activity,” he added.

Lobolia further warned that gambling has severe social consequences, particularly for families, and urged residents to steer clear of the vice.

“Many people lose money to gambling, and it affects both children and adults. It brings financial ruin and disrupts families. The public must understand that gambling is illegal, and neither the national nor county government benefits from such activities,” he stated.

He reiterated that those involved in illegal gambling must cease their activities immediately or face legal consequences.

“Anyone engaging in unlawful business in this county should either comply with the law or leave. Their days are numbered,” he warned.

The crackdown in Mlolongo is part of an ongoing countywide effort to restore order and curb illicit businesses, with authorities vowing that no offender will be spared.
