NAIROBI, Kenya- Asumbi Girls National School has achieved a remarkable milestone in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cycle, with all its candidates qualifying for university placement, marking a 100% transition rate for the graduating class.
The announcement was made on Friday, January 9, 2026, following the Release of national examination results by the Ministry of Education.
At a press briefing held on the school grounds, Chief Principal Linet Pino shared the outstanding accomplishment, saying all 914 candidates who sat for the KCSE achieved the minimum requirement — a C+ grade and above — needed for direct entry into Kenyan universities.
According to the official results, the distribution of grades reflected strong academic performance across the board. The school recorded:
- 9 A (plain)
- 178 A- (minus)
- 396 B+ (plus)
- 273 B (plain)
- 54 B- (minus)
- 4 C+ (plus)
These results place Asumbi Girls among the top-performing schools in Homa Bay County, with a school mean score that significantly exceeds the basic university entry threshold.
The success is seen as a testament to the dedication of the learners, teachers, and supportive parents.
“We are delighted that every single candidate qualified for university,” Principal Pino said.
“This outcome is the result of collective effort — from our committed staff to our hardworking students and involved parents.”
The celebration at the school was jubilant, with learners and their families marking the achievement with songs, dances, and expressions of relief and pride.
The mood reflected both academic excellence and the opening of future opportunities for the young women.
The success at Asumbi Girls contrasts with national data showing thousands of candidates across Kenya failing to meet the C+ threshold for university entry, underscoring the school’s exceptional performance.
According to the Education Cabinet Secretary’s release, out of over 270,000 candidates who qualified for direct admission into universities nationwide, the numbers represent a fraction of the total cohort taking the KCSE exam.
In Homa Bay County, several other schools also recorded strong results in the 2025 KCSE. Mbita High School posted notable achievements, while Orero Boys High School led county rankings with high mean scores in several key subjects.
Beyond academics, Asumbi Girls has also been lauded for its holistic approach to education, which includes participation in co-curricular activities, leadership development, and community engagement.
School leaders say such engagement has reinforced learners’ confidence and resilience — traits they believe contributed to the excellent KCSE results.
Looking ahead, Principal Pino expressed confidence that the school will continue to build on this success.
She indicated that Asumbi Girls has already begun preparations for the 2026 KCSE cohort, noting an increase in student registration and an emphasis on academic enrichment programmes.
“As we celebrate today, we also prepare for tomorrow,” Pino remarked.
“Our mission remains to empower young women through quality education and to ensure that every student who joins Asumbi Girls has the opportunity to thrive and achieve her dreams.”
