BOMET, Kenya – Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers have arrested a senior administrator in Bomet County for allegedly soliciting a bribe to settle a local dispute.
Martin Vaslaus Jakoyo, the Assistant County Commissioner for Emkwen Division, was picked up on Thursday by EACC officers based in Nakuru and later booked at the Bomet Central Police Station.
According to police reports, Jakoyo is accused of demanding Sh20,000 from a villager as payment to resolve a quarrel between two residents—a matter that had already been concluded by Nyumba Kumi elders.
EACC officials said the arrest followed a targeted operation after receiving complaints about the administrator’s conduct.
Several chiefs from Bomet Central Sub-county, speaking on condition of anonymity, accused the suspect of frustrating efforts to curb the illicit brew trade in the area and of using his position to push personal interests.
The EACC has not disclosed whether charges have been formally filed, but the matter is expected to be handed over to prosecutors once investigations are complete.
The arrest adds to a growing list of public officials facing scrutiny over alleged abuse of office, as anti-graft agencies step up crackdowns on corruption in the counties.
