NAIROBI, Kenya – The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has launched a new set of guidelines designed to address growing concerns over the online safety of children.
The initiative is part of the Authority’s broader strategy to regulate Kenya’s rapidly expanding digital space and ensure a safer internet environment for vulnerable groups, particularly young users.
The newly introduced guidelines align with national consumer protection laws, reinforcing the CA’s responsibility to protect consumers of communication services, as outlined in the Kenya Information and Communications Act 1998 and the Consumer Protection Regulations of 2010.
These regulations mandate the development and implementation of measures that safeguard vulnerable consumers, including children, from online risks.
The guidelines, now available on the CA’s official website, focus on child online protection and safety in Kenya.
The Authority is encouraging public engagement by inviting comments and requests for clarification, which can be submitted via email at pea@ca.go.ke or through P.O. Box 14448, Nairobi 00800.
In a statement, the CA emphasized the importance of providing a safer digital experience for children, ensuring they are protected from online dangers while navigating Kenya’s growing internet landscape.
This move underscores the Authority’s commitment to maintaining the safety and well-being of children in the digital age.
