NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya’s iconic Kasarani Stadium will stage the final of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), marking a major milestone for the country’s football scene as the prestigious tournament returns to East Africa for the first time in nearly a decade.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the decision in a statement Thursday, following consultations with the three co-hosting nations—Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The final is scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025, bringing the month-long continental competition to a close in Nairobi.
This will be the first time Kenya hosts the final of a major CAF tournament, a significant achievement for the nation’s football ambitions.
The 2024 CHAN tournament, which features players exclusively drawn from their domestic leagues, will officially kick off on August 2 at Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Uganda’s Mandela National Stadium in Kampala will host the third-place playoff, while Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium, which recently gained prominence after hosting the CAF Confederation Cup final in May, will also serve as one of the official venues.
This multi-nation hosting arrangement underscores the region’s rising influence in African football and offers a platform to enhance regional cooperation and sporting infrastructure.
It is the first time CHAN will return to East Africa since Rwanda hosted the event in 2016.
The tournament has grown in profile as a stage for homegrown talent to shine, often propelling players into international careers.
With preparations underway, attention now turns to the host nations’ readiness to deliver a seamless championship, from stadium infrastructure to logistics and fan experience.
