NAIROBI, Kenya – Tickets for Kenya’s highly anticipated opening match at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) against DR Congo have sold out, just six days ahead of kickoff.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) confirmed the development on Monday, marking a major vote of confidence in the tournament’s popularity and the national team’s home support.

The match, scheduled for Sunday at 3pm at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, will see a packed stadium of fans cheering on the Harambee Stars as they begin their CHAN 2024 campaign on home soil.

The LOC Chairperson Nicholas Musonye recently announced that there will be no match-day ticket sales, a decision aimed at improving crowd control and enhancing security throughout the tournament.

The sellout confirms the strategy’s effectiveness in encouraging early ticket purchases and orderly attendance.

Fans snapped up regular tickets priced at KSh200, VIP tickets at KSh500, and VVIP passes at KSh1,000, reflecting the high level of excitement around the match and the tournament as a whole.

High Stakes, High Anticipation

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has called on fans across the continent to turn up in large numbers to support their teams, reassuring them of heightened safety measures and smooth logistics during the event.

CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba also urged Kenyans to show up in full force, embracing the “Pamoja spirit” and setting an example of passionate home support as the country eyes a successful bid to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Kasarani Stadium will host all of Kenya’s group stage matches, with Nyayo Stadium set as an alternative venue if needed.

After facing DR Congo, Kenya will return to action against Angola. Tickets for that clash will go on sale at midnight on July 29, offering another opportunity for fans to rally behind the Harambee Stars.
