Chris Brown Charged with Grievous Bodily Harm Over Alleged London Nightclub Assault

Date:

MANCHESTER, UK — American R&B singer Chris Brown has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent following an alleged assault that took place at a central London nightclub last year.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charge on Thursday, stating it stems from an incident reported on 19 February 2023.

Details of the altercation remain limited, but the charge falls under Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, which covers serious, intentional harm.

Brown, 36, was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning at a hotel in Manchester, where he was reportedly staying during the UK leg of his tour.

He is currently in custody and is expected to appear before Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

“We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm,” said Adele Kelly, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North. “Criminal proceedings against this defendant are active, and he has the right to a fair trial.”

Brown had flown into Manchester Airport via private jet on Wednesday afternoon, according to reports by The Sun.

He is currently touring the UK, with multiple performances scheduled in June and July.

The artist, known for hits such as With You and Under the Influence, has had previous run-ins with the law, including a high-profile 2009 assault conviction in the U.S. involving singer Rihanna.

Authorities have not released further information about the alleged victim or the events leading up to the incident.
