NAIROBI, Kenya – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will resume Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) on Monday, September 29, 2025, in a fresh drive aimed at expanding the voter roll ahead of future elections.
The Commission said the exercise is anchored in its constitutional mandate under Article 88(4) of the Constitution and is designed to ensure that “every eligible Kenyan has the opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s future through democratic elections.”
According to IEBC, the registration targets mainly young people who have just turned 18, unregistered citizens, and voters who need to update or transfer their details.
Preparations Underway
Ahead of the exercise, IEBC has embarked on mapping registration centres, consulting stakeholders, consolidating geospatial data, and readying its Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits.
Other measures include gazetting registration officers, training personnel, distributing materials, and rolling out civic education campaigns.
“These steps are necessary to ensure the process is efficient, inclusive, and transparent,” the Commission said.
Services Available
During the exercise, Kenyans will be able to:
- Register as new voters,
- Transfer their polling station,
- Correct personal details, or
- Verify their voter registration status.
The services will be available at all IEBC constituency offices except in areas where by-elections are ongoing.
Who Can Register
To qualify, one must be a Kenyan citizen aged 18 or above, hold a valid ID card or passport, and not be registered elsewhere.
Persons convicted of an election offence in the past five years, those declared of unsound mind, or those already listed in the current register are not eligible.
Applicants will be required to fill out statutory forms depending on the service sought — Form A for new registration, Form B for changes, Form C for transfers, Form D for claims or objections, and Form E for appeals.
New applicants must present themselves at designated centres with their ID or passport for biometric capture and will be issued an acknowledgement slip.
However, IEBC clarified that the slip will not serve as an identification document during voting.
Voter details can also be verified online at https://verify.iebc.or.ke or at constituency offices.
The Commission added that the exercise will not cover Kenyans in the diaspora or those in correctional facilities.
It attributed this to “ongoing policy reviews for these categories,” promising to issue updates once the reviews are complete.
