NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 25 – Cummins C&G has launched a new engine rebuild facility in Nairobi, designed to improve the maintenance and servicing of Cummins engines and power solutions across East Africa.
The centre, situated on Lusaka Road, features a dynamometer testing system that simulates real-world conditions to assess generator performance.
The technology measures output power, voltage and frequency stability, fuel consumption, cooling efficiency, and emission levels.
“Dyno testing confirms rated capacities, ensures genset safety and reliability, validates repairs and designs, and identifies issues such as overheating, fluctuating voltage, low fuel efficiency, and mechanical faults early. This reduces field failures, ensures compliance with standards, and strengthens customer trust,” said Erick Sangoro, Managing Director of Cummins C&G.
Beyond routine generator servicing, the Nairobi hub will undertake engine rebuilds, restoring damaged or worn engines to nearly new condition.
The facility is also set to function as a technical training centre for customers, providing hands-on learning opportunities.
Car & General CEO Vijay Gidoomal underscored the synergy of technical expertise and local market insight.
“Cummins’ technical know-how combined with C&G’s deep understanding of the regional market allows us to deliver on our promise of customer satisfaction across every town and street,” he said.
Cummins C&G is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Car & General, which distributes a broad range of vehicles and equipment including motorcycles, three-wheelers, tractors, forklifts, generators, and construction machinery across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, and Seychelles.
The company has served as the official Cummins distributor in East Africa since 2006, supporting both commercial and industrial clients with after-sales service, technical support, and parts availability.
The new rebuild centre reflects the company’s strategy to strengthen engine performance, reduce downtime for customers, and expand technical capacity in the region.
