NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo will be buried in Lugari, Kakamega County, as his family continues to demand answers over the circumstances surrounding his death.
Jirongo, a prominent political leader and businessman, died on December 13 following a road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway, an incident that has raised questions across the country.
Authorities reported that Jirongo’s vehicle collided head-on with a passenger bus, causing his death.
While official accounts indicate a tragic accident, his family has publicly expressed concern, insisting that the events leading to his passing be fully clarified.
In the lead-up to Jirongo’s burial, the family hosted vigils and memorial services attended by political allies, friends, and community members.
The body was received at the family’s Kitale residence for an overnight vigil before being moved to Lugari Primary School grounds, where the funeral service will take place prior to interment at the family homestead.
Jirongo’s political career spanned decades, beginning with his role in youth mobilization in the early 1990s.
He later remained a prominent figure in national politics, known for his bold positions and business ventures. His death has prompted tributes from across the political spectrum, reflecting the wide reach of his influence.
Family members have urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the road accident, seeking clarity and accountability.
Hundreds of mourners, including Kenya political leaders, community representatives, and citizens who closely followed his career, are expected to attend the burial.
