NAIROBI, Kenya — Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspected traffickers and recovered 250 grammes of heroin during a targeted anti-narcotics operation in Nyali, Mombasa County.
In a statement issued on Friday, the DCI said the operation was led by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Mombasa following credible intelligence linking the suspects to both drug trafficking and child trafficking networks operating across the Coast and Nairobi.
The raid was conducted at a residence in Maweni Estate, Nyali, which investigators believe was being used to facilitate the illicit activities.
“Upon searching the house, officers recovered three sachets of heroin weighing approximately 250 grammes,” the DCI said.
The suspects were identified as Amir Latf and Ruhman Abubakar.
According to preliminary investigations, the two are suspected to be part of a wider criminal network involved in the distribution of narcotics and the trafficking of children across Mombasa, Malindi, and Nairobi.
The DCI said the suspects are currently in custody, undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.
The agency said the operation forms part of sustained intelligence-led efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks and protect vulnerable groups, particularly children, from exploitation.
“This arrest and recovery reaffirm the DCI’s commitment to combating drug and child trafficking through intelligence-led operations,” the statement said.
