NAIROBI, Kenya – The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has confirmed that its X and Facebook accounts were hacked on Sunday evening by cryptocurrency scammers.
In a statement released shortly after regaining control, the agency emphasized that any posts made during the breach were fraudulent.
“For a brief period, we experienced a cyber-attack on our digital platforms (X and Facebook). The attackers, who attempted to seize control of our accounts, posted misleading information, which is entirely false,” said DCI in its statement.

The security agency assured the public that the compromised accounts had been secured and that a thorough investigation into the attack is underway.
The DCI has vowed to bring those responsible to justice, labeling the activity as criminal.
The brief hack saw posts related to cryptocurrency, a subject unrelated to the DCI’s work, triggering concern among followers.
The agency quickly clarified that the information was fake and not sanctioned by the DCI.
“We take this matter very seriously and have initiated a full inquiry into the breach,” the statement concluded.
