NAIROBI, Kenya — Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have dismantled two interconnected narcotics syndicates in Kibra Sub-County, arresting two suspects and recovering drugs, cash, and distribution equipment in a coordinated multi-agency operation.
The operation, led by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) with support from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) and the Operations Action Team (OAT), targeted premises in the Karanja area following intelligence on ongoing drug trafficking activities.
In the first raid, detectives arrested a 51-year-old suspect identified as Ahmed Juma Wanjiru after conducting a search at his residence. Officers recovered 14 packages of dry plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, packaged in ziplock and non-woven bags, suggesting intent to distribute.
Authorities also seized multiple empty packaging materials, two digital weighing scales, and cash amounting to Sh31,700, believed to be proceeds of the illicit trade. A mobile phone and personal identification documents linked to the suspect were also recovered.
In a second, related operation within the same locality, detectives arrested another suspect, Sofia Burhan Marjan, after raiding a separate residence linked to drug distribution.
During the search, officers recovered seven packages of suspected narcotics, additional quantities stored in a basin, and two packages containing rolled substances.
They also seized four weighing scales, scissors, a rolling paper, a metallic smoking pipe, and packaging materials commonly associated with drug preparation and sale.
Investigators further recovered documents linking the suspect to previous criminal proceedings, including a charge sheet and witness statements, raising concerns about repeat involvement in narcotics-related offences.
Both suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, with all recovered exhibits secured at DCI headquarters for forensic analysis.
The agency said the operations highlight intensified efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and reduce the availability of illicit substances in urban areas.

Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, possession, trafficking, and distribution of narcotics attract severe penalties, including long-term imprisonment and fines upon conviction.
DCI has urged members of the public to continue sharing information to support ongoing efforts to combat narcotics and enhance community safety.
The latest arrests underscore the government’s broader strategy to dismantle supply chains and prosecute individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.
