NAIROBI, Kenya – The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has unveiled a new WhatsApp line — 0709 570 000 — to bolster efforts in crime prevention and enhance public collaboration through secure and anonymous reporting.
Speaking during the relaunch of the Fichua Kwa DCI initiative on Tuesday, DCI Director Mohamed Amin said the platform is designed to offer a faster, more discreet way for both local and international users to share intelligence on criminal activities.
“The new WhatsApp number provides an anonymous and secure channel through which the public, both locally and internationally, can share intelligence on crime,” said Amin.
This move adds a digital layer to the DCI’s existing toll-free hotline (0800 722 203) and underscores a growing shift toward leveraging technology in Kenya’s crime-fighting efforts.
Anonymous, Accessible, and International
The WhatsApp line allows citizens to send texts, images, audio, or video evidence to investigators while maintaining full confidentiality.
The DCI says the platform is especially useful for Kenyans in the diaspora, who may now report criminal activity or suspicious behavior without the barriers of location or cost.
“It’s not just a communication tool; it’s a symbol of our commitment to improving security through cooperation with citizens,” Amin added.
Fichua Kwa DCI: Trusted by the Public
The WhatsApp rollout is part of the Fichua Kwa DCI programme — a public engagement drive that has helped dismantle organized criminal rings and combat terrorism, drug trafficking, and other serious crimes through citizen-provided tips.
Amin praised Kenyans for their continued bravery in reporting crimes and stressed the role of anonymity in protecting sources and encouraging steady information flow.
“Many of the breakthroughs we’ve achieved stemmed from tip-offs by ordinary Kenyans. We count on the public’s support to make our country safer,” he said.
Tech-Driven Policing
Acknowledging the rapidly evolving security landscape, Amin emphasized that the DCI is committed to modernizing its investigative approach to keep pace with digital trends.
“With the continuous advancement in technology, it’s vital that our crime-fighting mechanisms also evolve,” he said.
The DCI encourages the public to continue using both the toll-free number and the WhatsApp line to report any suspicious or criminal activity, reminding citizens that national security is a shared responsibility.
