MARYLAND, US — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has held a private meeting with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i in the United States, a rare encounter that could signal shifting political dynamics ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a brief statement posted on his official social media channels, Gachagua described the engagement in Aberdeen, Maryland, as a “tête‑à‑tête” and said the two had a candid discussion about Kenya’s political situation and what he termed “the liberation cause.”
“During my visit to the USA, I had a tête‑à‑tête with Dr. Fred Matiang’i at Aberdeen, Maryland. We discussed several issues affecting our country, Kenya, and our liberation cause. Our focus remains strong, and our commitment to the people of Kenya is unwavered. God bless Kenya,” Gachagua stated.
The meeting comes at a time when both Gachagua and Matiang’i have signaled interest in contesting the presidency in 2027, and it adds fuel to speculation about new political alliances in the making.
During my visit to the USA, I had a tete-a-tete with Dr. Fred Matiangi at Aberdeen, Maryland. We discussed several issues affecting our country, Kenya, and our liberation cause. Our focus remains strong, and our commitment to the people of Kenya is unwavered. God bless Kenya.
Diaspora Outreach Tour Gains Momentum
Gachagua has been in the United States since July 10, embarking on a multi-city tour designed to engage with the Kenyan diaspora and build support for his newly launched political vehicle, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
The former Deputy President has already made stops in Seattle, Boston, Baltimore, and Maryland, where he has been holding town hall meetings, cultural receptions, and investor forums.
Sources close to the DCP leader say the trip is part of a larger mobilization effort to “connect with Kenyans abroad, listen to their views, and consolidate diaspora support ahead of 2027.”
Gachagua’s visit to the U.S. has drawn significant attention, with his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, also participating in parallel engagements focused on social issues affecting Kenyans abroad, including family and mental health advocacy.
